RAMAGOPALAN NAIR

The life journey of Ramagopalan Nair, from a teenage boy who left his home in pursuit of success to that of an accomplished business entrepreneur in the UAE, is indeed phenomenal. Ramagopalan Nair is the Chairman of Anchor Chemicals Co LLC and Golden Anchor General Trading Co LLC., a major supplier of chemicals for various industries. He is a well qualified and professional businessman, specially in the field of chemicals. He has to his credit a proven track record of not only setting up two/three chemical trading companies in Dubai but also bringing them up to the level and par with the existing topmost and well renowned chemical trading companies. He also has a few business ventures in Kerala. A humanitarian to the core, Ramagopalan Nair runs Ramu’s Charitable Trust as well, through which he provides support to many needy people.

Flashback

Ramagopalan Nair is a native of Arattupuzha in Thrissur district, a place well known for Arattupuzha Pooram, a major festival in the region. Held in Arattupuzha Temple, the Pooram is known as ‘Devamela’, given its massive attendance of deities from neighbourhood shrines. It is believed that all the 33 crore Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu pantheon would be present here at the time of the festival. Arattupuzha Pooram is also considered as the oldest temple festival in Indian subcontinent.

Ramagopalan Nair was born as the son of the late Vasudevan Nair, who was an employee of Cochin Devaswom Board and the late Sathybhama Amma. His mother inculcated in him the virtues of commitment and discipline. After completing SSLC and KGFE in Typewriting and shorthand, Ramagopalan Nair accompanied Bombay Krishnan Nair, who was his relative and neighbor, to Mumbai in 1971. He has much gratitude for this person for being the reason for his incredible success. There he got a job as a tele-printer operator in the famous news agency, United News of India (UNI). After one-and-a-half years, he got promotion as senior tele-printer operator and was transferred to the Indore office of the company. He worked there for eight years. While in Indore, he associated with many social and cultural organizations. He was the secretary and office-bearer of Malayali Samajam and has helped many people using his position.

He resigned from UNI and joined Sanghi Brothers, Indore, as a stenographer, where he worked for two years. Then he got the opportunity to work as a PA to the branch manager in Modi Rubbers Ltd, India Unit. After four years, he was promoted as PA to Divisional Manager in the company headquarters, Modi Nagar, UP.

Within these 11 years, he could support his brothers to reach a good position. In 1984, after gaining much experience from different parts of India, he reached Dubai. Though he had to face a lot of difficulties in the initial days, soon he got a job in a chemical company. At that time, he didn’t even know the names of chemicals. He worked in three different companies in the next 12 years and within this period, he learned the names, uses and production aspects of different chemicals.

With this rich experience and knowledge he achieved through practice and personal research he started his own business, Anchor Chemicals in partnership with a friend.

Anchor Chemicals Co LLC

Anchor Chemicals was formed in November 1997 under the name and style of Anchor Chemicals Trading Est, Dubai. With his efficiency, hard work and honesty, Ramagopalan Nair could change the status of the trading establishment to a Limited Liability Company within three years, with the name of Anchor Chemicals Co LLC. The company’s business is now spread across food, oil, paint, textile, glass production, foam, spices, swimming pools, laundry, perfumery, paper and printing ink, water purification, leather and hotel industries. The company maintains good rapport with suppliers, buyers and customers. Availability of stock and prompt delivery are the reasons behind the success of Anchor Chemicals.

In 2005, the company’s sister concern, Golden Anchor General Trading Co LLC was established to do general trading, especially in building materials, tyres, textiles and readymade garments. It also has distribution authority for the trading of waterproof products of the brand Sika, which has reach in almost all countries.

Other ventures

In Kerala, Ramagopalan Nair has set up and Ramu’s Shopping Mall at Ollur, Thrissur, where prime business establishments like South Indian Bank and finance companies such as Manappuram Finance, Geojith Securities, Seldate Kuries etc. are housed. Other establishments owned by him are Hotel Savera Park, Oorakam; Hotel Pooram Residency, Kundannoor; Athirappally Residency, a four-star hotel in Athirappally; and Ramu’s Travels, Arattupuzha. Ramu’s Charitable Trust run by Ramagopalan Nair provides financial help for the needy people and undertakes several charitable activities.

Devotee of Shasthavu

Ramagopalan Nair is an ardent devotee of Arattupuzha Shasthavu. He believes that it is his devotion and trust in the deity that has helped him overcome the obstacles and become successful in all his endeavours.

Arattupuzha Pooram is a major festival in the area, known as the largest assembly of Gods and Goddesses on this planet, with 24 deities taking part in the festival. The annual festival is also termed as the mother of all pooram festivals in Kerala, due to its sheer magnitude and grandeur. It is believed that those who take a holy dip in the Arattupuzha River during Arattupuzha Pooram Festival can attain sixth sense and longevity of life. The major attraction of the festival is the final pageant where 60 elephants will line up for the show.

Ramagopalan Nair has contributed much for the development of the Arattupuzha Sri Shastha Temple. He has presented a golden shrine (Thazhikakkudam) covered with pure gold of around 400 grams to the temple and paved the path for circumambulation with Ashlar stones (Krishna shila) as an offering. He has also donated money for covering the stone lamp of the temple with brass. Besides, he offers oil for the temple every month without fail. These are only a few of the contributions he made to the temple.

Family

Ramagopalan Nair is married to Geetha Ramagopalan, a home maker. The couple has two sons–Ramadevan R Nair and Krishnaprasad R Nair. Ramadevan R Nair, an MBA holder in Finance and Marketing, is the Managing Director of Anchor Chemicals Co LLC. He is married to Rajeswari Ramadevan. Ramabhadran and Rajalakshmi are his children. Krishnaprasad R Nair, an MCA holder, is the Managing Director of Golden Anchor General Trading Company LLC. He is married to Durga Krishnaprasad and the couple has a daughter, Krishna Krishnaprasad.

During his leisure hours, Ramagopalan Nair enjoys reading. More than a successful businessman, he loves to be known as the devotee of Arattupuzha Shasthavu, a well wisher of his native land and native people, a philanthropist who is always ready to help the needy, a person who promotes the local festivals and gatherings, and the one who finds joy in loving his family and friends.
