Lalu Samuel is one the most prominent Malayali businessmen in the Middle East, who has built up an international business empire with his focused efforts and visionary ideas. He is the chairman of Kingston Holdings, a multi-national company based in Sharjah, which is the largest investor in the SAIF Zone. He is also the CEO and Managing Director of four other multi-national companies namely, Pierlite Middle East FZC, GP Battery Marketing Middle East FZC, Xpelair Middle East FZC and Rexton Technologies Middle East FZC.

Lalu Samuel, a native of Adoor, was born as the son of the late K C Samuel Kuvampil, who was a government contractor in the Roads, Bridges and Irrigation Department, and Kunjamma Samuel, a home maker. He completed his schooling at Holy Angels School and pursued predegree at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvalla. After graduation, he went on to earn ICWAI and MBA degrees.

He excelled in sports during his students days and has represented his school and university at several state and national events. He was also a part of the state junior boxing team. Besides, he was active in NCC, Air wing and Brains Trust. Lalu Samuel is a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Karate and has learned Kalaripayattu also.Lalu Samuel came to the UAE in 1982. In 1983, he started off his corporate career by setting up an agency of British Telecom’s TeleTrade that supplied telecommunication components to Etisalat and then diversified into electrical products. In 1984, Clipsal products were added to its portfolio. During the Kuwait war, the business went through a rough patch. In 1996, the company started a joint venture with Clipsal. This continued till 2010, even after Clipsal brand was sold to Schneider Electric in 2003 by Clipsal Australia.

In 2005, Kingston Holdings formed joint ventures with two major companies– GP Batteries, the third largest battery company in the world, and Pierlite Australia. In 2010, Kingston formed yet another joint venture with Rexton Technologies UK and later acquired the brand worldwide. It was in 2012, Kingston formed a joint venture with Glen Dimplex, an Irish multinational company and the parent company of Xpelair, which is a 100-year old British brand. An influential corporate leader, Lalu Samuel is the first elected chairman of The Industries Business Group that comprises 1770 manufacturing units and functions under the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Besides, he is a Board member of the Trustees in the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Kingston Holdings

Kingston Holdings is involved in a wide range of operations extending areas across manufacturing, distribution, tools & dyes manufacturing, advertising & marketing, retail, distribution & exports and project development. The company has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the SAIF Zone, spread across 1 million square feet land area, 750000sq ft built up area, 125000 sq ft manufacturing floor, 305000sq ft warehousing and administration area, 110,000 sq ft office space. The facilities have won ISO 9001-14001 certification and manufactures around 1200 products. Around 350 kilometres of pipes are produced here per day and 3 million boxes per month. The factory also produces 250000 light fittings per day.

Ware House

The products are exported to more than 75 countries and are distributed through major business groups including Juma Al Majid, Eros Electricals, Thomsun Group, Gargash, Beta Engineering in UAE, WJ Towell, Zubair Group in Oman, Jaidah Motors, Darwish in Qatar, Y K AL Moyyad Bin Hindi in Bahrain, AL Yousifi and Badr Mulla in Kuwait. The group operates in the UAE with retail outlets in Sharjah & Dubai and it has offices in Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, India, UK, Canada and the US.

Cable Management Systems

Rexton Technologies Rexton Technologies, which markets products under the brand name REXTON, started off as a British company in the 1960s. Now Kingston Holdings FZC holds the ownership of this company. Rexton is currently the flagship brand of Kingston Holdings and has a portfolio of around 12,000 products. Rexton focuses on business areas such as air movement, heating & ventilation, lifestyle & security, PVC& metal cable management systems, data storage, personal care, metal enclosures, LEDs, emergency & commercial lighting. Besides, the brand provides environment friendly and intelligent lighting solutions that help in reducing carbon footprint significantly.

Around 1,200 of these products are manufactured in SAIF Zone and all of them have International quality approvals including BSI & IEC and UL&CUL. Moreover, all the manufacturing plants have ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 accreditation. The products are exported to around 125 countries in the GCC, The Levants, Central Asia, Far East, North America, and also to Canada, UK, India, and Maldives.

Pierlite Australia, the joint venture partner of Kingston Holdings FZC, is the largest lighting manufacturer in Australia and Asia Pacific. Known for its quality, technical performance, support and services, Pierlite is an international brand leader in commercial and industrial light fittings.

The company was started in 1940 in Australia. The Manufacturing Joint Venture operations cover the entire Middle East and Africa. The JV factory manufactures commercial lighting, fittings for indoor and outdoor applications, special application and hazardous location lighting fixtures and LED lighting for new and retrolit applications.

Gold Peak, headquartered in Hong Kong, is a multi-national company established in 1964. The company owns GP Batteries, world’s third largest battery company in the world.

GP Batteries is also the manufacturer and the world’s major supplier of primary and rechargeable batteries. One of the largest consumer battery manufacturers in the world, GP Batteries today has 60 percent world market share in 9-volt batteries. GP supplies an extensive range of battery products to original equipment manufacturers, leading battery companies and consumer retail markets. The Group is also counted among the most reputed and the largest manufacturers of portable power solutions for smart phones.

Moreover, GP offers custom battery solutions for a wide range of applications including Industrial OEM, emergency lighting, field instrument, consumer electronics, electric vehicles and hobby.

Glen Dimplex & Xpelair

Xpelair Middle East, a joint venture between Glen Dimplex, the parent company of Xpelair UK, and Kingston Holdings FZC, covers an extensive customer base across countries including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and also the GCC, Middle East and African and Central Asian countries. Glen Dimplex, founded in 1973, has now become the world’s largest manufacturer of electrical heating, and holds significant global market positions in domestic appliances, cooling, ventilation, and renewable energy solutions. Its annual revenue is above two billion euro and more than 10,000 employees work in its establishments across four continents.

Glen Dimplex has also pioneered a low carbon revolution with a range of solutions in space and water heating, cooling, ventilation and heat recovery. These innovative low carbon systems are helping customers around the world to reduce their carbon footprint and eliminate cost.


With Family

Lalu Samuel is married to Lovely, daughter of the late Mr P C Abraham from Thiruvalla, who lived in Bahrain from 1955 and retired as the General Manager of Grey McKenzie in 1982. Lovely, a postgraduate rank holder from Mahatma Gandhi University, is also one of the directors in the company. The couple is blessed with three daughters. Michelle, the elder daughter, is an Electrical and Communication Engineer. Also a good athlete, she was the captain of the school basketball team. Moreover, she is a black belt holder in karate. The two younger daughters, Ashley and Angela, are twins. Ashley is a student of Management in Finance and Accounts in the UK. She was the school athletics champion and has participated in Inter-school athletics events and Inter- School basketball tournaments. She also holds a blackbelt in Karate. Angela, a Lawyer from Reading University, too was an athlete like her sisters and an inter-school basketball player. She also holds a blackbelt in Karate. Besides, Angela has been selected from the school to meet the former President of India, the late Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.
