A man of multiple talents, Moideen Koya K K is a familiar face for Malayalees across the globe with his notable presence on the silver screen. He came to the UAE with an Engineering background, but made it big in the media field here. Today he is the Associate Director of Media Relations of UAE Exchange, an established money transfer service provider. A passionate writer, he has also excelled as a script writer for TV programmes, columnist, and editor.
Before coming to the UAE, Moideen Koya has worked as a service engineer with the IPA, an integrated automation firm based in Bangalore and as the process camera operator at MalayalaManorama. In the UAE, he started off as a service engineer at Ali Al Hashmi Trading Establishment, the largest printing and graphic arts company in the Middle East. Later he joined UAQ Radio 846AM, under the management of Shamal Media Services, as a programme manager. He has played a major role in moulding the Malayalam channel of the UAQ Radio 846AM to perfection in its initial years. Later he joined Asianet Radio, when it was launched in the Middle East in 2000. As the mentor, he has helped Asianet Radio too, to evolve into one of the most popular radio channels among Gulf Malayalees. In 2003, he took up the role of programme director of Middle East Television(MET), the first Indian channel to be beamed from Dubai Media City. His next destination was ArabiayileSulthan, the first Friday Magazine in Malayalam published by the Press Centre and Art LLC. It was a publication which brought many burning issues of expatriate Malayalees in the Gulf countries to public attention. In 2006, Moideen Koya joined Jeevan TV as the programme director (Middle East). He took up the position of the Head of Media Relations in the UAE Exchange in 2008 and has been continuing there for the past nine years.
Moideen Koya has conceived, scripted, presented and directed a number of popular television programmes. Oasis Talks, Pravasachindakal and Snehapoorvam on Asianet and Nenmaravela-Nanmayude Vela and Pranamam on Kairali are some of the TV programmes that have revealed his creativity and potential.
Having a flair for writing, Moideen Koya has associated with a number of Malayalam magazines published from the Middle East. He used to write the column, RadioyilParayathePoyathu in the Gulf Life Magazine and served as the patron of Gulf Life Readers’ Club. He has also served as the resident editor ofChithram Film Weekly and SangeethikaMagazine, in which he authored the column, AkkareAkkare. He was also the founder and secretary general of Chithram Readers and Family Club. Besides he has donned the role of the chief editor of Arabia Cinema, in which his regular column, SmrithiTharakangal, appeared.
A talented actor, Moideen Koya has acted in a number of Malayalam movies including Garshom, Gandhari, Arabikkatha, Gaddama, Diamond Necklace, Red Wine, 3 Dots, Musafir, BuntyChor,Persiakkaran, ThirunthudaKathalThiruda, 48 Hours, Amoeba, KattumakkanandPathemari. He has also acted in and directed a number of radio plays and stage plays. He was an active member of Liberal Theatres(Naduvannur), PunchiriKalarang(Kozhikode), Veedhi Fine Arts Society(Kozhikode), and Theatre Research Artists Centre(Kottayam). Specialised in children’s theatre, Moideen Koya has directed several plays which have won many prizes at youth festivals and other competitions. Currently he is acting in the main role in Salamath Café, a satirical TV serial broadcast on Kairali Arabia, AkalatheAyalkkar on Amrita TV and KuttikkayyudeBakkipathram on Asianet Plus.
Moideen Koya is also a professional compere, who has anchored for a number of shows including ONAM’93, ONAM’94, ONAM’95 conducted by Overseas Indians Charitable Trust, ONAM 95 and ONAM 96 conducted by Indian Association, Dubai, anniversary celebrations of Dubai Kairali Kala Kendram, Dubai Art Lover’s Association, and Emirates Arts Centre, Siddique Lal Show 95, Bharatham 95, Mammootty Stage Festival 96, Tharamela 96, SangeethaMela 95, Arabian Dreams 97, and many more.
Moideen Koya has also reaped success in the field of event management and media marketing. As the chief executive officer of Talents Media FZ LLC, Dubai Media City, and Right Choice Media, Sharjah, he had been actively involved in various activities including multimedia production, post-production, marketing, event management, production and marketing of TV shows and advertisements, radio advertisements etc. He also took up conceptualisation, scripting, anchoring, production and direction of various programmes.Samoni Visuals, Sharjah, is a reputed event management group dealing with stage shows and TV shows. As the director and partner, Moideen Koya has conceived, scripted, anchored, produced and directed many shows including Snehapoorvam(May and June 2002), AvaniSandhya(August and September 2002), Onam Sharjah(September 2002), Aslam with Samoni(April 2003), Arabia-SamoniMappilaKalamela(28 – 30 May 2003), Chithrothsavam(Dec. 30, 2004 – Jan. 7, 2005), Eid Music Drive(Feb – March, 2005), Mylanchi(2006), Kuppivala(2006), Dreams(2007), and DSF Music Mania(2007) etc.
MoideenKoya’s school education was at Government Higher Secondary School, Naduvannur, and Nochad Higher Secondary School. He pursued his Pre-degree at Farook College and Sree Narayana Guru College, Chelannur. He studied BA Malayalam at the Institute of CCE under Calicut University. From Model Industrial Training Institute, Calicut, he took diplomas in Electrical and Electronics and Industrial Electronic Controls. During his student days, he was active in Bharat Scouts and Guides under Government of India, All Kerala BalajanaSakhyam under MalayalaManorama and Kerala SasthraSahithyaParishad.
