Mathew Kavalam, an engineer who’s come a long way, Mathew Kavalam has engineered many high profile projects in the Middle East over the last two decades. Three decades after obtaining a Mechanical Engineering degree from the MA College of Engineering, Kothamangalam, Kerala, Mathew has travelled a long way to occupy his current position as Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Albanna Engineering LLC, (ABE) a subsidiary of Eternal Global, which provides turnkey engineering and contracting services to the oil and gas, aluminium, power and petrochemical industries.

As the partner and CEO of a company with nearly 1500 employees, many of them highly professional engineers, Mathew has successfully managed many multimillion dollar projects in different Emirates of the UAE and region, and is gearing up to expand to new markets including India. Equipped with the Mechanical Engineering Degree, he started his career as a construction engineer with Aban Constructions in Chennai. He was associated with various mechanical engineering construction projects in the petrochemical, fertilizer, oil and industrial sectors all over India as construction engineer for Aban Constructions and Petron Engineering in Mumbai. Before moving to Dubai, he was working as a project engineer for Hindustan Antibiotics in Pune.

Thanks to the rich experience and engineering skills that he obtained during his association with globally reputed companies like McConnell Dowell Middle East LLC, Petron Engineering, Hindustan Antibiotics, he could reach the top management position in Albanna Engineering, headed by Chairman Saeed Albanna. Under their leadership, Albanna Engineering LLC, has made it possible to complete many complicated and sophisticated engineering works, without compromising on the quality and safety aspects.

As a leading EPC contractor in the region, ABE has worked closely with major oil and gas companies and industries like Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), EPPCO, Emarat, Dubai

Aluminum Company, Emirates Aluminum Company, Oil Tanking, Fujairah Refineries, Gulf Petrochem, to mention a few prestigious client lists. Among the multimillion dollar projects that ABE has completed till 2014, there are many landmark engineering works like refinery revamping, sulfur recovery units and aviation field pipelines. Equipped with a 100,000 square feet state of the art workshop in the Al Qouz Industrial area, Dubai and a 140,000 square feet fabrication facility in Fujiarah, the company houses all necessary equipment to meet the project requirements for fabrication.

Thanks to the professional standards and the prestigious list of projects already undertaken by ABE, Mathew has a heavy order book for the next three years, and is very confident that ABE is not far beyond any other multinational EPC companies in the world. Recently ABE has been awarded with two prestigious projects of VGO and DHDT units of the Integrated Refinery Expansion Project (IREP) of BPCL for their Kochi refinery.

In an effort to combine social values and the professional lifestyle and to give back to the society that has been so much of a nurturing force, ABE has a very strong a CSR initiative. While business does keep Mathew professionally occupied and happy, he also makes sure he spends enough and more of his time socially; being an active member of his college alumni, Lion’s Club and being the President of the Kerala Engineers Alumni, KERA, are just a few of the social activities that he’s a part of. Happily married to Mini Mathew, he still remains a cent percent Malayali, who has inherited the rich traditions of his planter father Mathew C Kavalam and Marykutty Mathew. A serious reader, Mathew Kavalam is preparing to capture new arenas of ever expanding business domain of the MENA region and India.
