INDIAN ASSOCIATION UMM AL QUWAIN

The Indian Association of Umm Al Quwain has been conducting Free Medical Camps every year as part of its charity and welfare activities for the past several years. The Association of Kerala Medical Graduates UAQ-Ajman Chapter and Kerala Pharmacists Council UAE supported the camp held in 2018, which was attended by nearly 2000 people of different nationalities who were provided with free medicines.

The Indian Association of Umm Al Quwain which was founded in 1981, by an Amiri Decree is the only Indian Community Organization, recognized and functioning under the directions of the Consulate General of India in Dubai. The Association has a high reputation among the local authorities and people, for the services rendered by it in the fields of socio-cultural, welfare and charity activities in the Emirate.

As part of its charity services, the Indian Association has donated an amount of AED 300,000 to the Kerala Chief Minister’s distress relief fund for the victims of the August 2018, flood in Kerala. In addition, with its initiative an additional of AED 700,000 collected from companies in Umm Al Quwain was also donated to the Chief Minister’s distress relief fund. Materials amounting to AED 200,000 were also sent to Kerala by IAU Managing Committee with the help of well wishers and sponsors.

The Association received several appreciations for the way it has been conducted. The Medical Camp of 2018, was inaugurated by waving Year of Zayed Flag by H E Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Moalla.

It offers consulate related services to the community which is available on alternate Fridays every month. In coordination with the Consulate General of India in Dubai, the association also conduct visits to the jails in Umm Al Quwain to enquire and assist those needy persons to get out passes and other sorts of help. It also extend a helping hand to repatriate the mortal remains of the deceased to their home town.

The Indian Association of Umm Al Quwain also presents Academic Excellence Awards to the children of its members who excel in the 10 th and 12 th standard examinations conducted by the CBSE and Kerala State Board. Awards are also being presented to the toppers of SSLC examination from Indian Schools in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain.

Free Blood Sugar and Pressure checkups are also being offered to the needy as part of the charity service, on the second Friday of every month. This charity work is supported by the Welfare Wing members of the association who are Para Medics and Nurses.

The Association also encourages and facilitates its members and family to participate in various activities during gettogethers and celebrations organized by it. The IAU organizes functions to mark the National Days of India and the UAE as well as national festivals of India.

The IAU also played a Prominent role in the Amnesty programme with the support and cooperation of various organizations in Umm Al Quwain. A help desk was also opened by IAU and gave support to all Indians and other nationalities who approached it to avail the Amnesty programme. It also holds classes for Dance, Music and Karate for boys and girls.
